The red zone is often associated with anger. People in the red zone often look very upset, exhibiting:
- Shouting/yelling
- Red, angry face
- Clenched teeth and fists
- Furrowed brows
What does it feel like?
When people are in the yellow zone, they often feel:
- Mad/angry
- Irate
- Vengeful
- Senseless
How do you cope in the red zone?
Yellow Zone Techniques
Plus:
- Breathing exercises (deep breath, 6 sides of breathing, lazy 8 breaths)
- "Count to Ten"
- Body break
- Calming/fidget tools
- Noise-cancelling headphones
- Going for a walk
- Talking to an adult
Plus:
- STOP, OPT, and GO
- Stop yourself, remove yourself from the situation, pick a strategy and return when you've calmed down.
- Your goal is to de-escalate from Red to Green (at least to Yellow).
